Background
Claire received an Associate Diploma in Music and BA in psychology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She did graduate work at the Gesell Institute of Child Development in New Haven Connecticut, receiving clinical training in perceptual development and school readiness testing. She taught psychology and child development at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Embarking on her pedagogical career in piano, she has maintained private studios in Rapid City, South Dakota, Worthington, Ohio and Bainbridge Island, Washington. She developed a program entitled “Scale Studies” for the Seattle Aquarium Summer Arts Program, which combined the study of music and marine biology. Her article describing the program was published in the American Music Teachers magazine.
She has continued piano studies since 1983, with Irene Bowling, then John T. Moore and Craig Sheppard at the Univeristy of Washington, Leonard Richter of Walla Walla College, and for the past six years, with Jeffrey Gilliam at Western Washington University.
She has performed as soloist with the Bainbridge Orchestra, and in recitals in the Seattle area, including Sherman Clay’s “Music for Lunch” series.
Claire is state and nationally certified. She is active as a clinician and adjudicator around Washington state. She is a member of the College of Examiners for The Royal Conservatory of Music and National Music Certificate Program.
She and her husband live on Bainbridge Island with two high maintenance Airedale terriers, who take an active interest in welcoming piano students! |
